This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building pipelines, automation, and developer tooling, and who wants hands-on exposure to modern cloud platforms, data workflows, and emerging AI capabilities.
You’ll work closely with senior engineers, architects, and customers to build and evolve internal platforms, reference architectures, and customer solutions learning by doing in a real production environment.
You’ll spend your time
- developing cloud-native applications and data pipelines, primarily in Python, following modern software and DevOps best practices
- building and maintaining data engineering workflows using tools such as Apache Airflow (Cloud Composer), Apache Beam (Dataflow), and cloud-native storage and messaging services
- writing clean, reusable, and well-tested code for internal tools, libraries, and automation frameworks
- developing APIs in Cloud Run primarily in Java
- collaborating with team members to design, plan, and deliver features for Kubozoa’s platforms and customer engagements
- contributing to CI/CD pipelines, testing strategies, and release automation
- learning and applying secure-by-default development practices
- producing clear documentation, diagrams, and API specifications to support your work
- staying current with modern cloud, data, and AI technologies and applying them where they make sense
- evolving your skillset and becoming an expert with many DevSecOps related tools, processes and platforms such as:
- public & private cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure, Openstack)
- IaC and configuration management (Terraform, Ansible)
- implementing and adhering to test driven development best practices and automation test frameworks such as PyTest, JUnit, Mocha.
- development & CI/CD platforms (Gitlab, Gitlab Runner, Jenkins)
- data & messaging platforms (MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, RabbitMQ, Kafka)
- observability & analysis frameworks (Kiali, ELK, Prometheus, Jaeger, Grafana)
- testing & chaos engineering frameworks (Serenity, Selenium, Postman, JMeter, Chaos Mesh)
- security SCA, SAST & DAST tooling (SonarQube, Veracode, Snyk)
You should apply if you
- are passionate about designing clean and efficient code to solve complex problems
- are a self-starter who relishes autonomy and is outcome oriented
- are curious about how systems work end-to-end (not just making things work)
- have strong skills in critical thinking and problem solving
- are familiar with building Docker images, OpenAPI specifications and have a good experience writing REST API code in Java and Python
- have a strong experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases, and writing complex queries as part of ETL development
- derive a sense of satisfaction from overcoming difficult challenges and learning new concepts and technologies
- are innately curious and not content with simply getting something to work, but want to dig deeper and understand the how and the why of it
- are a thought leader who can’t help but bring their ideas up for open discussion and debate
- believe in the power of reusability & automation so that mundane repetitive tasks need not be performed by humans
- accept that failure is part of the process and learn from intelligent mistakes
- work collaboratively, value open and honest dialogue and communication
We’d be particularly excited to hear from you if you
- are based in the Greater Toronto Area
- are familiar with and able to articulate cloud native architecture, principles, benefits and drawbacks
- want to work with a startup company with a focused team where your contributions are acknowledged and rewarded
- have built side projects, labs, or contributed to open-source projects
- have hands-on experience (academic, personal, or professional) with data pipelines or ETL/ELT workflows
- have experience with developing data engineering pipelines in Java and Python using Apache Airflow or Apache Beam frameworks.
- have worked with GCP services such as Cloud Composer, Dataflow, BigQuery, or Pub/Sub
- are interested in how AI and automation can improve developer and platform workflows
